New York Times - Connecticut: New Haven: Computers Had Personal Data

Two computers stolen from Yale University last month contained the Social Security numbers of about 10,000 current and former students and about 200 faculty and staff members, university officials said yesterday. Yale officials said they had notified those affected, but had not received any reports that the data on the machines had been misused. The officials said the computers were password-protected, one by multiple password levels, which “would require considerable computer savvy to bypass.” The machines were stolen from a dean’s office on July 17.
